The Heart Knows
There is a moment when a horse lowers its head into your hands; a dog rests its head against your heart, or a mother gently nuzzles her young. Nothing needs to be said.
In these fleeting moments, we experience a connection that transcends words — a tenderness that reminds us what it means to be truly seen, trusted, and loved.
It is these moments that inspire my art.
Animals reach us beyond the roles we play and the lives we lead. They don't measure us by our accomplishments, possessions, or imperfections. They simply meet us where we are.
A horse responds to what we're honestly feeling; a dog offers comfort without question. Trust is earned through patient building of a cadence that allows each of us to be who we really are.
Once we earn their trust, affections flow freely and devotion is our enduring gift. In their company, we discover the rare beauty of being completely ourselves and savoring the uniqueness of each creature we love.
I am captivated by the individuality of each animal: the intelligence in my dressage horse's eyes as he anticipated our next move, the exuberance of a puppy discovering the world as our lifelong bond begins to take shape, or the quiet wisdom of an old companion who has absorbed my tears and listened to countless hours of my prattling.
I capture these seemingly ordinary moments to allow you to revel in the extraordinary personalities. My pencils tell the stories of lives intertwined in the heart and soul.
With my art, I illuminate the spirit within each animal, capturing the subtle expressions, gestures, and unspoken understandings that define an intimate relationship. Beyond a likeness, my art exudes tenderness, trust, and quirky individuality that make each animal bond unique.
I laugh when the familiar sound of plastic unwrapping awakens my dogs from a deep sleep, knowing that I will never be able to eat an entire cheese stick… because cheese tastes better when shared.
My art celebrates these extraordinary ordinary connections.
We spend so much of life pursuing things that can be measured, achieved, and displayed. Yet the devotion of an animal reminds us that life's greatest treasures are often immeasurable: an exuberant greeting when we just left 2 minutes ago to empty the trash, the quiet silence of companionship after a hard day, the unmistakable comfort of being covered in sloppy wet kisses because we're loved without condition.
I invite you to see more than an animal — to recognize your own story, relive a cherished moment, and feel once again the presence of a soul that has forever touched your heart.
Because some of life's deepest truths are understood not through words, but through the heart — and that's what I capture.
